Potrebbe sembrare inopportuno e provocatorio, in occasione della Giornata della Memoria, affermare e sottolineare i limiti del ricordare; ma credo che proprio in questo momento di riflessione che ormai da anni dedichiamo alle vittime della Shoà occorra interrogarsi sul valore politico e pedagogico della memoria; un valore che non possiamo pensare sia implicito o sottinteso. Poco prima di morire tragicamente Primo Levi aveva avanzato la proposta di ripensare all’utilità dei viaggi ad Auschwitz rivolti ai ragazzi e alle ragazze. Proprio in quanto ex-deportato, l’autore torinese vedeva i limiti di questi viaggi proprio nel loro essere spesso una mera operazione ritualistica, che non andava a toccare nel profondo le coscienze e le sensibilità degli adolescenti: una gita scolastica, dunque, con una giornata di visita al campo nella quale, quando andava bene, i ragazzi atteggiavano il loro viso al cordoglio e alla tristezza. E nient’altro, o quasi. Queste operazioni, come tutte le altre occasioni nelle quali ricordare le vittime si limita a un ritualistico e distratto omaggio retorico, non solo sono inutili ma fanno il gioco proprio di coloro che vorrebbero che si dimenticasse.
