Da citare gli immensi The Birds ( band composta da Luigi Nardella, - voce solista, Michele Gaggiano –ch , Michele Villani, -ch, Silvestre Cervone – bs, Giovanni Fulgaro –bt. ), The Wolves ( Leonardo Ianzano –voce solista, Michele Giuliani –ch, Michele Martino – tast, Leonardo Perta –bs, Alfonso Patrono –bt ) e Le Pietre Azzurre, ( con Natale Tenace –ch, Pietro Longo –tast, Luigi Stanco –bs e Luigi De Sol –bt ) gruppi fondamentali per capire il passaggio da una musica melodica, semplice e ripetitiva ad una musica più moderna, complessa e dai tratti persino hard come stava imponendo la moda progressiva di quel periodo, peraltro all’interno di una nuova scena molto più frenetica dal punto di vista generale dell’evoluzione musicale rispetto al passato.

Indimenticabile resta in questo senso la resa del brano “La prima goccia bagna il viso” eseguita dai Birds in una impeccabile performance da brividi durante un loro storico concerto tenuto nel paese agli inizi del decennio ‘70.

Sulla scia dei Birds, scomparsi quasi subito, si formano i Butterflys nel 1971, gruppo essenziale, che propone una musica da “ juke box “ prelevata dai successi del momento ; non hanno un vero cantante anche se Leonardo Parisi, che suona anche la tastiera Farfisa, si sforza di assumerne il ruolo. Gli altri componenti, tutti alle prime armi, sono Mario Mossuto al basso, Angelo Accadia alla chitarra e Mario Masullo alla batteria. Di tutto l’organico il solo Mario Masullo avrà una carriera regolare in futuro ed è tuttora in attività dopo aver suonato con quasi tutti i gruppi che si sono avvicendati in paese nel corso degli anni seguenti.

Sono tuttavia gli anni del riflusso, interlocutori e generale appiattimento musicale.

Le condizioni sociali alla metà dei settanta sono deprimenti, vi è disoccupazione ovunque soprattutto in Inghilterra e in genere nasce proprio da queste situazioni di disagio sociale e giovanile unito alla depressione, l’impulso alla rinascita musicale. Mancano testimonianze di gruppi dotati di suoni estremi, metallo pesante e tutte le contaminazioni immaginabili, ma spesso sono gruppi che si formano e si scompongono nello spazio di un battito d’ali per cui non lasciano in paese alcuna traccia.

I Fly, che hanno avuto un certo successo, appartengono alla cernita dei gruppi che hanno caratterizzato un periodo musicale preciso, fornendo una musica senza grandi novità ma, come ho già detto, di grande valore professionale. I loro spettacoli erano dotati sempre di una formalità impeccabile e anche se a volte scadevano nel pop più stucchevole, sapevano farlo con molta classe.

Hanno inciso un singolo, Via con te / Averti un attimo, nella qualità media del periodo.

E’ terminata ieri sera a tarda ora la terza edizione della mostra fotografica dei gruppi e dei cantanti sammarchesi, quest’anno dedicata solo ai complessi degli anni 60 / 70 con qualche coda nei decenni successivi. La novità sta nel fatto che una intera sezione è stata dedicata ai musicisti del posto scomparsi in questi ultimi anni, inevitabile omaggio a personaggi che hanno reso grande la scena musicale del paese nel corso degli ultimi decenni del secolo scorso. Lo voglio sottolineare perché spesso nei nostri dibattiti alcuni compagni e compagne sostengono che andiamo male in quanto facciamo gli accordi col centro-sinistra. Non è così. Lo dicono i dati ormai consolidati di questi ultimi anni. Onestà intellettuale vorrebbe, quindi, che si usassero altri argomenti.
Io penso, infatti, che le nostre difficoltà risiedano altrove e i limiti che abbiamo siano altri.

A second problem I see relates to the identification of our social contacts.

Ci deve essere stato un qualche errore in queste teorizzazioni se oggi tutta la sinistra di alternativa ritiene la manifestazione del 16 ottobre della Fiom, contro l’attacco al lavoro e ai contratti, l’appuntamento più importante dell’autunno!
Infine due brevi considerazioni sul Governo e su Vendola e Sinistra Ecologia e Libertà.
La formulazione contenuta nel documento è giusta: proponiamo una coalizione democratica per battere Berlusconi e le destre senza assumere impegni di governo. Detto questo eviterei di impostare la nostra campagna elettorale dicendo che noi non siamo interessati al Governo, ma che ci uniamo per cambiare la legge elettorale e combattere il bipolarismo. La percezione che deriverebbe da questa impostazione is that we do all this for our interest, survival.

Il Pd, ancorché indebolito, non si farà massacrare da una personalità oggi indubbiamente molto popolare, ma senza una forza organizzata dietro come è Nichi Vendola. Inoltre, al contrario di quello che si dice anche nelle nostre riunioni, non penso proprio che vi siano pezzi influenti della borghesia più o meno illuminata che abbiano alcun interesse a tirare la volata al Presidente della Puglia. Anzi.
Noi non dobbiamo apparire come quelli che attaccano Vendola qualsiasi cosa dica o faccia. E’ un atteggiamento stupido e infantile. Verrebbe interpretato, dalle molte persone di sinistra che oggi guardano a lui con speranza, come una ennesima dimostrazione della stupidità di questa sinistra.
Noi dobbiamo dire che la ricostruzione di una sinistra degna di questo nome non passa attraverso la pur importante capacità di un leader. Già negli anni passati abbiamo toccato con mano quanto l’affidamento alle capacità mediatiche di una persona sola sia importante, ma non sufficiente. Così come evocare grandi innovazioni e grandi narrazioni, senza sapere bene dove si vuole andare, può determinare, come è già avvenuto, la distruzione di quel poco che c’è, senza però costruire nulla di nuovo. Noi facciamo un operazione inversa a quella di Vendola, forse oggi meno attrattiva, ma che ha il pregio, a mio parere, di essere più concreta. Intanto diciamo chi siamo e dove stiamo. In secondo luogo proponiamo un percorso di unità basato su cose che esistono (le forze che si riconoscono nella Federazione della Sinistra), in terzo luogo proviamo, anche qui concretamente e rendendoci conto della parzialità, ad unire, invertendo la tendenza alla Division all these years.
