Mercoledì July 28 met the national coordination of the Federation of the Left. to discuss the policy document to be presented at the founding congress. It 'was a good debate, not at all formal and predictable. At the end of the text was approved with one vote against (Claudio Bellotti) and two abstentions (Anita Sonego and Gianluigi Pegolo).
Regulation for the Congress in September and will be defined within that month, always discussed and approved by the national coordination.
Some rules, however, have already been defined. May be submitted thesis or alternative documents should be signed by at least 5% of the members of national coordination (77 members). Should be submitted within one week after the publication of the document and Regulation. In any case, thesis or alternative documents as may be approved by at least a provincial congress will be put to the vote at the national congress.
Here is a summary of my speech.
"I am very satisfied with the document we explained Cesare Salvi. This is a text which, while taking into account the various positions in our debate on substantive issues does not lend itself to misunderstandings. The Federation of the Left is a political entity that offers an alternative society and believes that we need to do this than the capitalist system. It aims to build a Left alternative independent from the Democratic Party and the center-left. For this is against the bipolarity and the majority that, conversely, tend to exclude, by the mechanism of alternation, any alternative hypothesis. Within this framework, the FDS works to build the broadest unity to defeat Berlusconi and, while considering that to date there are no conditions to build, with the other forces of the center, an alliance of government, is committed to building a democratic coalition beat the right. With other forces to the left of the Democratic Party is planning to build a stable coordination with the objective of achieving unity of action from the constitution of committees for the YES in the referendum for water common good and to build on the territories of participating in the demonstration organized by Fiom for October 16.
That said, I have the impression that some distinctions that have emerged in this debate are completely disconnected from reality.
Some comrades have said that in our political action there is a deficit of radicalism, of "taking away" from the Democratic Party and the center-left. I think it is a claim without foundation.
Refoundation Communist in the past two years (from Chianciano conference to present) has unquestionably placed, compared to previous years, on a more "radical." The same thing can be said of the PDCI. Lo si vede anche dalle elezioni amministrative e regionali dove gli accordi con il centro-sinistra da parte della FdS, rispetto alle tornate precedenti, sono sensibilmente diminuiti. Tuttavia a questa “svolta a sinistra” non ha corrisposto un incremento di consensi, anzi i consensi sono ulteriormente diminuiti. Lo voglio sottolineare perché spesso nei nostri dibattiti alcuni compagni e compagne sostengono che andiamo male in quanto facciamo gli accordi col centro-sinistra. Non è così. Lo dicono i dati ormai consolidati di questi ultimi anni. Onestà intellettuale vorrebbe, quindi, che si usassero altri argomenti.
Io penso, infatti, che le nostre difficoltà risiedano altrove e i limiti che abbiamo siano altri.
Il primo di these is called credibility. But why should they trust us when in recent years we have done nothing but divide us? That claim may be the company policy of Communist Refoundation when virtually the entire ruling class that has given rise to today no longer believe and it is withdrawn or is engaged in very different projects? And what credibility can a left that, in addition to split, consider what has been his partner or his partner's struggle for a long time opponent to the point with the worst label definitions?
I firmly believe that unless we reverse this trend we can write all the programs we want, be alternative the whole world, but nobody will give us credit.
The reconstruction of a unity between the forces of communist and left alternative is a precondition for everything else. I believe in the Federation of the Left as a first step in this direction. We need to promote it more: the political project of the Federation of the Left, for the first time in twenty years, joins forces rather than divide!
A second problem I see relates to the identification of our social contacts.
Newspapers of alternative left (the events is free), and in recent months have given broad support and emphasize the journalistic world of work. The agreement Pomigliano and the latest proposals Marchionne vengono giustamente individuate come un attacco gravissimo non solo al mondo del lavoro, ma alla democrazia e alla libertà. Una sinistra che non coniuga questione democratica e questione sociale, si dice giustamente, non è una sinistra. Così come non è credibile difendere la Costituzione quando viene attaccata da Berlusconi, ma tacere quando l’attacca Marchionne. Giustissimo. Tuttavia non possiamo dimenticare che negli ultimi dieci anni anche la sinistra di alternativa e i suoi giornali di riferimento hanno dato ampio credito e spazio alle teorie sulla fine del lavoro, denigrando chi parlava di conflitto di classe e di persistenza della contraddizione capitale – lavoro come un residuo del secolo scorso da cui “girare alla larga”. Ci deve essere stato un qualche errore in queste teorizzazioni se oggi tutta la sinistra di alternativa ritiene la manifestazione del 16 ottobre della Fiom, contro l’attacco al lavoro e ai contratti, l’appuntamento più importante dell’autunno!
Infine due brevi considerazioni sul Governo e su Vendola e Sinistra Ecologia e Libertà.
La formulazione contenuta nel documento è giusta: proponiamo una coalizione democratica per battere Berlusconi e le destre senza assumere impegni di governo. Detto questo eviterei di impostare la nostra campagna elettorale dicendo che noi non siamo interessati al Governo, ma che ci uniamo per cambiare la legge elettorale e combattere il bipolarismo. La percezione che deriverebbe da questa impostazione is that we do all this for our interest, survival.
But I think we need to do a campaign in a positive forward proposals from the most important objectives to be achieved today: to prevent the worst right again govern the country. Vendola is playing a part in the political vacuum and leadership of the center-left. Why should we be sorry for this? Knowing that a project is different from ours, however, it would look carefully. Una sorta di azzeramento e di ricostruzione. Io penso che tutto questo sia velleitario. Il Pd, ancorché indebolito, non si farà massacrare da una personalità oggi indubbiamente molto popolare, ma senza una forza organizzata dietro come è Nichi Vendola. Inoltre, al contrario di quello che si dice anche nelle nostre riunioni, non penso proprio che vi siano pezzi influenti della borghesia più o meno illuminata che abbiano alcun interesse a tirare la volata al Presidente della Puglia. Anzi.
Noi non dobbiamo apparire come quelli che attaccano Vendola qualsiasi cosa dica o faccia. E’ un atteggiamento stupido e infantile. Verrebbe interpretato, dalle molte persone di sinistra che oggi guardano a lui con speranza, come una ennesima dimostrazione della stupidità di questa sinistra.
Noi dobbiamo dire che la ricostruzione di una sinistra degna di questo nome non passa attraverso la pur importante capacità di un leader. Già negli anni passati abbiamo toccato con mano quanto l’affidamento alle capacità mediatiche di una persona sola sia importante, ma non sufficiente. Così come evocare grandi innovazioni e grandi narrazioni, senza sapere bene dove si vuole andare, può determinare, come è già avvenuto, la distruzione di quel poco che c’è, senza però costruire nulla di nuovo. Noi facciamo un operazione inversa a quella di Vendola, forse oggi meno attrattiva, ma che ha il pregio, a mio parere, di essere più concreta. Intanto diciamo chi siamo e dove stiamo. In secondo luogo proponiamo un percorso di unità basato su cose che esistono (le forze che si riconoscono nella Federazione della Sinistra), in terzo luogo proviamo, anche qui concretamente e rendendoci conto della parzialità, ad unire, invertendo la tendenza alla Division all these years.
