Era nell'aria già da un po', con il MEP7000 c'erano state le prime timide avvisaglie, ma ora Pioneer è entrata davvero nel mercato dei controller dj. Era un passo inevitabile vista anche la drastica diminuzione di vendite dei lettori cd nell'ultimo semestre dell'anno: nonostante l'introduzione delle chiavette USB e della compatibilità con i software i lettori rimangono certamente indispensabili per l'uso nei club e nella fascia professionale, ma in tutte le applicazioni in cui la praticità di trasporto, peso e ingombro diventano parametri importanti i cdj hanno sicuramente lasciato il passo ai midi controller. Le consolle dj atte a pilotare i software condensano un'ampia gamma di funzioni con costi più contenuti e una facilità di uso e gestione che rende appettibile il djing anche ai meno esperti. 
Pioneer si presenta così con ben 2 prodotti, molto simili, dedicati ai 2 maggiori software in commercio: Traktor e Serato. Pioneer ha da sempre puntato sulla facilità d'uso dei propri prodotti e ha sempre seguito la filosofia di "un tasto, una funzione" rendendo le serie cdj e djm estremamente intuitive. Ecco quindi che la casa giapponese ha deciso di proporre 2 pacchetti bundle per i rispettivi software evitando così all'utente le procedure di configurazione, installazione di versioni LE ed eventuali upgrade. Entrambe le versioni dei controller sono esattamente concepite per pilotare le rispettive funzioni sulle schermate di Traktor e Serato ed una volta installate we will be faced with the product already complete and ready for use. DDJ are present on the strip in the track as fast already on the Numark NS7 and cdj2000 and Pioneer, the only real novelty, a real-time control on the management of the beat-grid to improve the auto-synch in the two software. Both also have a new and interesting ergonomics that allows you to put your laptop under the controller in order to save space (and integrity of the laptop ...) and allow comfortable viewing of the screen.
